Tottenham Hotspur started the post-Harry Kane era with a 2-2 draw against Brentford on Sunday.

With Ange Postecoglou taking charge of the Lilywhites for the first time and Kane having departed just two days earlier, supporters didn’t know quite what to expect.

Spurs went ahead courtesy of Cristian Romero’s header, before Brentford netted twice to turn the game on its head.

Emerson Royal was the unlikely hero for Tottenham as he rifled a long-range effort into the net to draw the visitors level in first-half added time.

Neither side could find a winner in the second period, meaning Postecoglou picked up a point during his first match at the helm.

Now, it appears that one of Spurs’ most experienced players could be set to quit the club.

According to Football Insider, defender Eric Dier could look to leave Tottenham this summer after being left out of Postecoglou’s squad on Sunday.

Dier wasn’t involved in Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Brentford on Sunday

Dier, 29, joined Tottenham from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon back in 2014 and has since made more than 360 appearances for the club.

The Englishman has been a regular for the Lilywhites for a number of seasons now, including under previous manager Antonio Conte, but he was omitted from the squad for Postecoglou’s first game.

The Australian instead opted to select Romero and new signing Micky van de Ven in central defence, and Davinson Sanchez replaced the former when he was forced off injured, with Dier not in the matchday squad.

Dier has recently entered into the final 12 months of his current contract, which suggests that this summer is Spurs’ last chance to command a significant fee for the player as he will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January and could leave for free next summer.

Clubs are said to have been made aware about the possibility of a cut-price deal for Dier as he nears the expiry of his current deal.
