Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of finishing in the top four were dealt a huge blow on Sunday as they fell to a 4-2 defeat against Liverpool.

The Lilywhites found themselves 4-0 down within an hour at Anfield, before two late goals from Richarlison and Son Heung-Min halved the deficit.

The loss leaves Spurs fifth in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Manager Ange Postecoglou will be desperate to see his side improve when they face Burnley on Saturday, but in the meantime those in charge of the club have made a huge decision on the future of one of their players.

As per Football Insider, Tottenham will tell full-back Emerson Royal to find himself a new club.

Royal joined Spurs from Spanish giants Barcelona in 2021 and has since made 100 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Royal could leave Tottenham this summer

The 25-year-old has played a bit-part role since the arrival of Pedro Porro at right-back, though, and the report claims that Spurs are now willing to cash in on him.

It is claimed that Tottenham will accept offers in the region of £20 million for Royal, who is contracted to the club until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Brazilian has started just 11 of Spurs’ 35 Premier League games so far this term, with Porro seemingly Postecoglou’s first choice on the right of defence.

While the club are willing to allow Royal to leave this summer, the report also claims that Spurs will be in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, both at right-back and in the centre of defence.

Royal has started Tottenham’s last two games at left-back, with Destiny Udogie injured.
