Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping to tighten their grip on first place in the Premier League table when they host fierce rivals Chelsea on Monday.

The Lilywhites have made a superb start to the new campaign, with manager Ange Postecoglou breaking the record for the most points won over the course of their first nine games in charge in the competition.

At present, Spurs sit two points clear of both North London rivals Arsenal, and reigning champions Manchester City.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are currently in 11th place having endured a difficult start to the new season.

Despite their record-breaking start to the campaign, Tottenham are reportedly set to delve into the transfer market in January.

The North London outfit are set to prioritise signing a new centre-back when the transfer window reopens, according to 90min.

Kelly remains a target for Tottenham

The report claims that Spurs remain interested in Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, having had a £20 million offer for the defender rejected over the summer.

Kelly, 25, joined the Cherries from Bristol City four years ago and has since made a total of 123 appearances for the club across all competitions.

He has continued to impress so far this term, and the report claims that Spurs have retained their interest in the player.

They could, though, face competition for his signature from Liverpool, Newcastle United, Fulham and West Ham United.

Bournemouth will be reluctant to lose Kelly, who can play at both centre-back or right-back, but they may choose to cash in on him in the new year with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Postecoglou has primarily used Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in central defence so far this season, but it appears that the Australian is keen to bolster his options in the role.
