Former Real Madrid and Premier League star Steve McManaman says he feels Marcos Asensio would very much suit a transfer to Arsenal.

The 25-year-old hit the headlines at the Bernabue early on in his Real career, scoring in winning Champions League, European Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup finals.

However, despite netting three times this term, the Spain international has found his playing time limited under Carlo Ancelotti.

When asked about Asensio’s lack of minutes on the pitch, former Madrid winger, who spent four years at the club, revealed he feels that Arsenal could be the perfect place for the playmaker to revitalise his career.

McManaman played 158 matches for Real.

The ex-Liverpool and England international told Horseracing.net (via managingmadrid.com): “Asensio might be one of those types of players, but if Benzema is in front of him, Mbappe is in front of him, if he think Vinicius is better than him, Rodyrgo’s ahead of him, and the opportunity is there to leave, then maybe he will take it.

“If it was a club next year, I’d say it would be Arsenal. Aubameyang’s coming to the end of his career and with Lacazette in a similar position coming to the end of his contract, Asensio could be at a club where he would probably have more joy of playing. If he is to leave in 18 months, it’s still a long, long way away.

“But I think he’s an Arsenal type of player, like an Odegaard, who is good on the ball, not necessarily really quick, but turns well, scores goals, and makes chances.”

Asensio has scored 40 times in 206 matches for Real Madrid since a transfer from Mallorca in 2014.

He has also won 25 caps for Spain and has represented his country at 2018 World Cup but missed out on a place in the Euro 2020 squad during the summer.
