Stoke City are still hopeful of thrashing out a deadline day deal for Championship defender Michael Keane, according to the Metro.

The Premier League side, who currently sit ninth in the standings, had a bid knocked back for the Burnley defender last month.

The 23-year-old, who is a former England Under-21 international, has scored three goals in 28 league games for the Clarets this season.

However Keane, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester United before leaving Old Trafford for Turf Moor last January, could now be offloaded by boss Sean Dyche following the club’s agreement to sign Brentford centre-half James Tarkowski for £3m.

The report suggests Burnley could look to recoup that £3m with the sale of Keane to Stoke later today.

However Keane has also been interesting the likes of Newcastle United and Tottenham.
