England international defender Glen Johnson has reportedly emerged as a shock transfer target for European heavyweights FC Barcelona, according to the Daily Mail.

The La Liga giants, who currently sit second in the Spanish top-flight, two points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid after their opening 11 fixtures, have added the Stoke City right-back on their possible January wishlist.

The 32-year-old, who has 54 international caps for the Three Lions, but has not featured for his country since the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has made four appearances in all competitions for the Potters so far this season.

Johnson, who arrived at the Bet365 Stadium back in July 2015 following his transfer from fellow Premier League outfit Liverpool, is understood to be a short-term solution for Barca’s right-back problems this campaign.

Aleix Vidal has unimpressed boss Luis Enrique at the Nou Camp so far this term, meaning the Spanish giants have tested a number of makeshift methods already this season since allowing Dani Alves to leave for Juventus back in June.

The report also suggests the Englishman has the backing of former team-mate Luis Suarez, who he played alongside at Anfield.
