David Moyes took advantage of Sunderland’s weekend without a game to take a trip Scotland where he watched Hibernian beat Dundee United 1-0, according to reports in the Sunderland Echo.

The Black Cats boss was reportedly there to watch the trio of prolific striker Jason Cummings, midfielder John McGinn and defender Efe Ambrose.

Hibs striker Cummings is enjoying a hugely successful campaign having bagged 20 goals in 31 appearances this season, although he didn’t do himself any favours while being watched by Moyes as he saw red for handball.

McGinn has caught the eye after a series of super displays while Ambrose has been earning positive reviews during his loan spell from Celtic.

With Sunderland on a tight budget, Scottish football may be the ideal untapped source for Moyes to add to his squad this summer without breaking the bank, although there’s still huge question marks over whether some of the players on his radar can make the step up to English football – especially if the Black Cats are playing Premier League football next season.
