Sunderland are reportedly hopeful of completing a cut-price deal for Brazil international Sandro.

The Premier League side, who are still four points adrift of safety in the bottom three despite Saturday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa, want to strengthen their midfield ranks this January with the addition of the Queens Park Rangers ace.

The 26-year-old, who has 17 international caps for his country, has failed to score in 11 league games for the Championship outfit so far this season.

Sandro, who is still on a reported £50,000-a-week at Loftus Road, was not risked during Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side’s New Year’s Day game against Hull City because they believe he is on his way to the Stadium of Light this month.
