Kevin Nolan has been without a club since leaving West Ham in the summer.

You never know what you will get with the Black Cats this year, with the last four games including two wins against Stoke and Palace, followed by defeats to Arsenal and Watford, but at least Sam Allardyce has given them some hope.

Improvement is needed in a large quantity for Allardyce and his men to stay up however, and the reliance on Jermain Defoe and, more recently, Duncan Watmore is clear to see.

A strong character and leader could be needed to get the dressing room together, and who better than the 33-year-old who knows Big Sam so well. Cheap and available to buy on a free transfer, Nolan would provide a drive from midfield and chip in with the odd goal to ease pressure on Sunderland’s strikers.
