Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has signed a new four-year deal with the club, which extends his stay at the Liberty Stadium until 2020.

The Iceland international had been linked with a £25 million move to Premier League rivals Everton this summer, but the 26-year-old has ended that speculation by committing his future to the south Wales outfit.

The midfielder, who was part of the Icelandic side that famously beat England 2-1 in the round of 16 at the European Championship finals in France earlier this summer, is in his second spell with the Swans, having rejoined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014.

The new contract will provide a boost to Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin, who has already lost three strikers this summer, while captain Ashley Williams is expected to complete a £10 million move to Everton later this week and Andre Ayew is reportedly being eyed by West Ham United as they search for a new attacker.
