Swansea City have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Ivory Coast international Seydou Doumbia, according to Sky Sports Italia.

The Premier League side, who hover just one point above the division’s relegation zone, want to sign the Roma striker during the January transfer window to boost their bid for survival this term.

The 28-year-old, who has 33 international caps for his country, has scored 11 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions whilst on loan at CSKA Moscow this season.

Doumbia, who only joined the Serie A side from the Russian outfit last January in a deal worth up to €15.9m, is wanted by Swans’ interim boss Alan Curtis following his side’s crushing 4-2 defeat to fellow strugglers Sunderland in midweek.

The report also suggests Swansea are willing to spend around £12m for Doumbia’s services, the amount the club received from the sale of England international Jonjo Shelvey to Newcastle United earlier this week.
