The Everton front four that could have been if they landed this key deal

Based on recent performances, it’s surprising to think that Ross Barkley was seriously struggling for confidence, and indeed struggling to get into the Everton team on a regular basis.

The England international, who hasn’t been selected for a squad since the European Championships last summer, scored one and assisted another in his first two appearances of the season, but then netted just once more in his next 12 games for the Toffees.

However, a fine all round display and assist in the 2-1 win over Arsenal in December has instigated an upturn in form for the 23-year-old, who has now scored once and assisted two others in his last five league games.

Although Koeman will still want more from Barkley, he has been much-improved in the last six weeks, and the goals, as well as an England recall, will surely come if he sustains this level of performance for the rest of the season.
