Remi Garde is Lerner’s sixth manager at Villa

Owning a 89.69% share in the club, Randy Lerner fell in love with English football during his time studying in the UK. Nine years on from his takeover, many fans have negative feelings towards the man who has sacked five managers in his time, and failed to take advantage of big money sales of players such as Stewart Downing, Christian Benteke, James Milner, Ashley Young and Gareth Barry. He has been heavily criticised for not providing enough investment in the club, something which has led to Villa currently sitting in the bottom three, changing their manager yet again with the recent signing of Remi Garde. In 2014, Lerner agreed to sell the club, saying that he owes it to Villa to move on and look for fresh leadership. The American also stated that: “In my heart I feel I can no longer do the job”.
