Fonte was a key part of the winning Portugal side that captured European Championship glory last summer, so they would highly value his experience in the defence.

Fonte has featured 19 times for the Saints in all competitions this season, keeping nine clean sheets in the process.

The 33-year-old still has a good couple of seasons left in him and he would make a fantastic tutor for young defenders such as Cameron Carter-Vickers at White Hart Lane.

Fonte would seriously challenge for first-team places; his age and his request to leave would also make him available at a cheap price.
