He’s not one that many fans around the country would rate, but Daley Blind has done well in both the centre-half and left-back role in the early stages of the season.

Eyebrows were raised when Louis van Gaal spent £14 million on the Dutch international in 2014, but the 26-year-old has helped United out at times when they’ve been short on defensive options.

Many won’t remember that, when Blind moved to Old Trafford, he was mainly playing in defensive midfield for Ajax, and helped them win the Eredivisie the season before he left the club.

Blind’s efforts at the back deserve more credit than he gets.
