Striker Jermain Defoe twice signed for Tottenham in the winter transfer window, and on both occasions it was money well spent by the North London side.

The former England forward joined the club in 2004 following a £7 million move from West Ham, and went on to net 64 times in 177 games for the club, winning the Player of the Year award in his first full year at White Hart Lane.

He left in January 2008 to sign for Portsmouth, yet lasted only a year on the South Coast before Spurs re-signed him in January 2009 for £16 million.

His second spell was more prolific than his first, as he scored 79 goals in 186 games for the club, including 24 in his first full season back in the 2009/10 campaign.

Defoe left for Toronto FC in 2014, but has since returned to the Premier League with Sunderland, where he has netted 33 times to help keep the club in the top-flight.
