5. Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

Chris Smalling has previously been slated by fans and the press for not being good enough to play for United and England, but how he’s proved them wrong. He’s started every single Premier League game this campaign and has been the rock in the Red Devils’ defence; a player in which most never thought he could be. The Englishman has been part of the reason United are now sitting at the top of the league, having kept four clean sheets in seven games. Looks composed and is improving all of the time.
