Carroll struggled following his big-money move to Liverpool.

The Geordie giant made an unexpected move to Liverpool on the same day that Luis Suarez arrived from Holland.

Having played just six months of Premier League football prior to being bought for a hefty transfer fee, the pressure was really on for Carroll. At the forefront of Newcastle’s attack, with the team built around him, the Englishman had scored 11 times in his first 19 Premier League games. Things did not go as well on Merseyside.

Carroll struggled to adapt to the playing style and soon found himself being deployed as an understudy to Suarez, who was finding his goalscoring form. A string of inspiring performances from Suarez coupled with constant injures prevented Carroll from ever regaining his first-team place.

A £15m switch to West Ham followed, but his tenure there has also been injury-plagued.
