This was one of the strangest transfer sagas in Premier League history, when it occurred in 2006. Manchester United announced they had a deal for Mikel with his club Lyn Oslo not long after he turned 18. The player was happy, there was a press conference and everything seemed completed and above board. However, then Chelsea claimed they already had a deal with Mikel and his agents and then the midfielder himself claimed he wanted to join Blues, not United. Mikel then disappeared, going back to his original club Lyn Oslo to see out the season there, with United and Chelsea at loggerheads. Finally the London side agreed to pay Oslo and United a fee for Mikel. It was all worth it in the end, right?
