Top 5: Bristol City managerial candidates

1. Michael Appleton

Appleton has done one of the jobs of the season so far at Oxford.

Maybe a surprise favourite to some, but Michael Appleton is the frontrunner for the vacancy left by Steve Cotterill due to his work with Oxford United this season.

He has guided the U’s to within one game of the JPT final at Wembley, the FA Cup fourth round – beating Premier League side Swansea in the process – and into a League Two promotion race.

However, in previous jobs with Portsmouth, Blackpool and Blackburn in the second-tier, the 40-year-old has failed to achieve success.

Early reaction from supporters suggests they wouldn’t be happy with Appleton at the helm either, but Lansdown is a visionary and could go against what the fans are demanding.
