Liverpool (again – 2004/05)

You didn’t think I’d by pass this top five without including Gerrard’s famous “Oh you beauty” Andy Gray moment, did you?

Ok, so the Anfield outfit didn’t have a horror start to the group like some of the other examples, but after losing their penultimate group game to Monaco, only a win by two goals was good enough against Olympiacos at home.

Brazilian superstar Rivaldo stunned the Merseyside club early on with a trademark goal, leaving Liverpool needing three goals in the second half. Florent Sinama-Pongolle equalised early on in the second half, but missed chances and solid defending frustrated the Reds, as they still needed to find the target twice to qualify.

With nine minutes to go, Neil Mellor was on hand to get the second, and as the game headed to a close, Mellor was again involved to head the ball down to captain Steven Gerrard, who drove his shot hard and low into the bottom corner as Anfield erupted.

Who’d have thought this wouldn’t have even been the most eventful moment in Liverpool’s season? They later went on to lift the trophy against AC Milan in Istanbul that season, coming from three goals down at half-time.
