Gareth Southgate is the man who has been tasked with steadying the England ship over the next few months, following Sam Allardyce’s shock departure just 67 days into his spell as Three Lions manager.

Over the summer, Southgate announced his reluctance to fill the void after Roy Hodgson’s exit, but has now agreed to stand-in temporarily after recognising the dire position The Football Association has been placed in.

Whilst the ex-Middlesbrough boss might not be the most inspiring manager to lead the national side, he probably is the safest pair of hands to see England through the crisis and has been selected as caretaker manager for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta, Slovenia and Scotland, plus an international friendly against Spain.

The 46-year-old has led the England Under-21’s side since 2013 and has worked with an abundance of young English talent during his three-year spell.

This, of course, could open the door to a number of call-ups for the English youngsters and here are five players who SHOOT think could be in line for a senior call-up under Southgate…
