Following the summer transfers of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph to Manchester City for a combined value of £57 million, both Englishmen will have a lot to live up to in the Premier League season ahead.

At only 20 years old, many will think that the £49 million price put on Sterling’s shoulders is too much, with him making this move far too soon. Delph, meanwhile, announced his loyalties with Aston Villa before making a dramatic U-turn to switch to the Etihad.

Despite being new arrivals, Wilfried Bony will tell them that pinning down a starting place at City is not easy.

So with that in mind, we look at five other English players (and there are a lot!) who made a move to a top club too soon in their career.
