3. Salford City

Salford City’s profile has been highlighted recently thanks to their first round giant-killing of Notts County and the documentary following their famous class of ’92 owners.

On Friday night, in front of the television cameras once again, the Ammies held League Two strugglers Hartlepool United to a 1-1 draw.

The Northern Premier League side would have been fearing the worse after Rhys Oates converted a penalty for ‘Pool on his 21st birthday.

But Salford refused to be phased by the task ahead and were level after 23 minutes when Stephen O’Halloran fired home from close range.

Even though both sides came close to grabbing the winner, a draw was the final result and the two sides will battle it out again at Victoria Park to decide who plays Derby at home in the third round.
