The FA Cup second round took place this weekend as 15 teams from across the country took a step closer to Wembley.

Eastleigh from the National League were the only confirmed non-league side to progress, while Salford City, Whitehawk and Grimsby all face replays.

Elsewhere, a few other clubs from outside the Football League put in heroic displays but ultimately fell just short.

But who were the standout sides of the round?

Here are our top 5 performances…….

5. Altrincham

Despite being 18th in the National League, Altrincham took Colchester United all the way on Sunday.

The Robins took an early third minute lead as Jake Moult scored a fantastic long-range chip that flew over Jamie Jones, before Callum Harriott equalised for the U’s to send the sides in level at half-time.

Yet, just a minute after the break, Altrincham were ahead again as Michael Rankine slotted home.

But managerless Colchester weren’t ready to roll over as young Tom Lapslie drew the sides back level.

Nicky Clee then had a golden chance for Altrincham but his one-on-one effort was weak and straight at Jones.

And just as a replay loomed, Charlton Athletic loanee Harriott popped up again to win the game for Colchester in the dying seconds and break Altrincham hearts.

Ironically, the Essex side host Charlton in the third round so they’ll have to make do without Harriott, who will not be able to play for either side.
