After a fine first half of the 1995-96 season, Newcastle United looked well on course to pick up their first Premier League title.

But as they stuttered in the New Year, Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United began to catch them, and the Scot decided to ramp up the pressure on his counterpart by suggesting that sides such as Nottingham Forest might not try as hard against the Toon.

After a win against Leeds live on Sky, Keegan let rip with his famous “I would love it if we beat them…” rant. United went on to win the title.
