Little under 12 months later, Klopp’s Dortmund went one better by defending their Bundesliga crown to secure back-to-back German league titles, with three rounds remaining. Efforts from Ivan Perisic and Shinji Kagawa clinched a comfortable 2-0 win for BVB over Borussia Mönchengladbach, denying second-placed Bayern Munich their 22nd German league title. Jupp Heynckes’ side narrowly fought off Werder Bremen 2-1 in the division’s earlier kick-off thanks to Franck Ribéry’s last-gasp winner, meaning BVB needed all three points in the later kick-off to wrap up successive titles that night. After doing so, Dortmund set a new league record after going 25 league games unbeaten, a marvellous run that stretched from September after losing 2-1 at Hannover.
