The game marked Eric Cantona’s return following his ban for practicing martial arts on a Crystal Palace fan. Robbie Fowler threatened to ruin Cantona’s day when he scored, ruling out Nicky Butt’s opener, and then the England striker scored again to put Liverpool in the lead. However, Cantona in true fashion responded with a goal, dispatching a penalty to grab a point for United.
