Top 5: Premier League games that shaped Leicester City’s title-winning season

4. Leicester City 2-1 Chelsea – December 14, 2015

Having carried a marvellous run of form through into the winter; losing just once, Leicester, the leaders, met Chelsea, the champions, in a Monday night clash in the Midlands.

Jamie Vardy had been crucial to the Foxes’ success, netting in 11 consecutive games to break Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record, but Riyad Mahrez was the star a week earlier when he hit a hat-trick at Swansea.

On this momentous night, though, both were on target to blow away the Blues.

Vardy opened the scoring in the 34th minute, before Mahrez added a sensational second just after half-time, twisting inside of full-back Cesar Azpilicueta to fire high into the far corner.

And though Loic Remy pulled a goal back, Leicester held on for a brave win.

While Chelsea had endured a tough campaign up to this point, this victory against a still-talented side suggested the Foxes might just take their shock title challenge into the second-half of the season.
