Arsenal secured second spot in the Premier League table after defeating Manchester City 2-1 in the weekend’s standout top flight fixture.

The Gunners are however two points behind surprise leaders Leicester City, who will be top at Christmas after their 3-2 victory away at Everton.

Elsewhere, Norwich City stunned Manchester United, Watford shocked Liverpool, while there were wins for Chelsea, Spurs, Crystal Palace and Bournemouth over Sunderland, Southampton, Stoke and West Brom respectively.

But in another round of unpredictable results, who were the top performers?

Here’s Shoot’s Top 5 Premier League Players of the Week……

5. Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)

Vardy impressed once again at Goodison Park

Although Riyad Mahrez stole the headlines after scoring two penalties, the Man-of-the-Match award went to Vardy, despite not featuring on the scoresheet himself.

His energy and direct running terrorized the Everton back-four all afternoon, as the England international won one of Mahrez’s penalties and also set up Shinji Okazaki to put the Foxes 3-1 up in their 3-2 victory.

Top at Christmas and nine points clear of Manchester United in fifth, Vardy is one of the reasons many are now seriously considering Leicester as title contenders.

It was compelling to see the 28-year-old have such a positive impact on the game, despite not getting on the scoresheet himself, as his never-say-die attitude and work rate perfectly epitomizes his side’s mantra.
