Gayle’s double against the Potters was the Palace striker’s second and third league goals of the campaign – Photo: Marc Atkins / Offside.

His first was a neat finish from inside the area after a terrific slalom run by Yannick Bolasie was halted by Geoff Cameron.

The 25-year-old then grabbed the winner with a fantastic 25-yard free-kick which he curled expertly past the wall and into the top right corner of the goal, despite slipping as he took the shot.
