4. Curtis Davies (Hull City)

Despite having just 13 players and no permanent manager, Hull City managed to record an excellent 2-1 victory at home to champions Leicester City in the opening game of the 2016/17 Premier League season.

Invaluable to the Tigers’ triumph was captain Curtis Davies, who had a hand in the opening goal when his header was well saved, before being acrobatically converted by Adama Diomande.

The 31-year-old was as solid as a rock at the back for caretaker boss Mick Phelan, as he made a game high number of eight interceptions and 15 clearances.

Davies also showed excellent tactical awareness to deal with the pace of  Leicester’s front two in Ahmed Musa and Jamie Vardy, using his vast experience to ensure their pace didn’t get the better off him.
