1. Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

The bookie’s favourite to finish the season as top goalscorer is already showing early signs of earning this accolade with six goals from three games in all competitions.

After a hat-trick on Tuesday in the Champions League play-off first leg at Steaua Bucharest, the 28-year-old followed this up with two strikes at Stoke City in a comprehensive 4-1 victory.

After Ryan Shawcross was controversially judged by referee Mike Dean to have pulled back Nicolas Otamendi at a corner, Aguero stepped up to fire his penalty into the top left corner – despite having missed two penalties during the week.

His second goal came just minutes later as he rose above Philipp Wollscheid and Glenn Whelan to guide Kevin De Bruyne’s right-sided free-kick past Shay Given in the Stoke goal.
