1. David Silva (Manchester City)

Like Raheem Sterling, Silva was back to his mesmerising best after a subdued campaign last season, dictating the play as City won 3-1 against West Ham United.

Linking up with John Stones and holding off a challenge from Enner Valencia, the Spanish playmaker threaded through a perfect ball for Nolito to find Sterling and put the Citizens 1-0 up.

In the closing stages with Pep Guardiola’s side 2-1 up, Silva smacked the left post before eventually finding space to tee-up Sterling who added the gloss to the score.

Everything good about City came through the diminutive midfielder as he looks to have been identified by Guardiola as a key member and orchestrator of his side.
