Mamadou Sakho has accepted that he has no future at Anfield and will almost certainly be playing for a new club come the end of January.

The defender has not played for the first-team since April because of off-field issues, which, in short, consisted of being sent home from Liverpool’s pre-season tour by manager Jurgen Klopp and receiving a 30-day suspension by UEFA after testing positive for a prohibited substance following a Europa League game.

Whilst UEFA failed to impose a further ban, the 26-year-old never managed to get back into the starting eleven.

The Reds have set a £20m price tag for the central defender, who has made 56 league appearances in his three years at the club, and Southampton and Swansea City are both keen to bring Sakho into their squads.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player would be a great defensive addition to either team, but it seems more likely that he will choose St. Mary’s as his next destination in order to link up with fellow Frenchman Claude Puel.
