Manchester United have been linked with everyone from Gareth Bale to Sergio Ramos this summer as Louis van Gaal has looked to add serious quality to his squad.

One of the deals that seemed more likely though was that of Pedro from Barcelona.

The Spain international has long been rumoured to be unhappy at his lack of starts at the Camp Nou and seemed to fit the bill as the Dutch bossl looked to add pace and trickery to his side.

One day the move was apparently on, then off again. The release clause quoted was different depending on which paper you read, but it seemed like it’d surely happen.

Then, ironically, out of the blue, Chelsea came in, and within a couple of days of their reported interest, he’s officially unveiled at Stamford Bridge.

Whether United truly missed out is anyone’s guess.

Clubs linked with: Manchester United, Chelsea.

Outcome: He signs for Chelsea for around £21m.
