Tottenham are reportedly considering a surprise summer swoop for Watford talisman Troy Deeney, according to The Sun.

The Premier League side, who eventually finished third in the English top-flight standings on the final day of the 2015/16 campaign, 11 points adrift of champions Leicester City at the summit, have identified the Hornets forward as a potential strike target ahead of the forthcoming 2016/17 term.

The 27-year-old, who started his professional career at League One side Walsall, scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions for the newly promoted Premier League outfit this season under former manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

Deeney, who was pushing for an England call-up earlier this year, is wanted by Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane as vital competition for Three Lions international Harry Kane.

The report suggests that Watford are desperate to keep hold of their striker, although top-flight champions Leicester are also said to be interested in his services.
