Tottenham Hotspur will face a tough test against champions Manchester City when the Premier League returns later this month.

The Lilywhites suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town prior to the international break, a result that left Ange Postecoglou’s side tenth in the table after 11 matches.

The Australian will be desperate to see his side improve when domestic football returns, and he may fancy their chances of getting a result against a City side that have lost four games in a row across all competitions.

Off the pitch, it appears that Spurs are chasing a La Liga star.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via GiveMeSport, the North London side are interested in Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo.

The 23-year-old joined Sociedad from La Liga giants Real Madrid in 2022, having previously spent time on loan with Mallorca, Villarreal and Getafe.

Kubo’s performances have attracted interest from Tottenham

Since joining Sociedad, he has scored 19 goals and provided 14 assists in 101 games for the club across all competitions.

He has impressed so far this season, scoring three times in 13 games.

It is claimed that the winger has a release clause set at £51 million in his current contract, and Spurs are said to be monitoring the player’s situation.

Spurs could face competition from German giants Bayern Munich for the Japan international’s signature, the report suggests.

Kubo’s current deal isn’t set to expire until 2029, and it is claimed that Sociedad will not entertain offers for the attacker and will only allow him to leave if his release clause is met.

The Japanese player primarily operates on the right flank but is also capable of playing on the left, and his versatility could appeal to those in charge of Spurs’ recruitment.
