By contrast to Sunderland’s jubilance, for their opponents Hull City, it was a weekend to forget.

Mike Phelan’s men currently occupy a relegation place, having endured a tough afternoon on Saturday – a result which leaves them a point and a position behind West Ham United.

It has been a tough few months for the Tigers. Hull have won just once since August, and are in need of a positive upturn in fortunes sooner rather than later.

With mounting injury concerns, and uncertainty off the pitch with the club’s ownership, Hull have struggled since promotion back to the top-tier from the Championship under Steve Bruce in May.

Hull are next in action next Saturday, when they host West Bromwich Albion at the KCOM Stadium.
