Any of the four Tottenham stars that played an integral part in England’s win against Germany in Berlin on Saturday evening could have taken this accolade, but we have opted for the 19-year-old.

This time last season, Alli was playing for MK Dons in League One, now he has established himself as an important player in a Spurs side that is chasing the Premier League title, as well as putting in some eye-catching performances for his country.

Despite it only being his second start for the Three Lions, the attacking midfielder led from the front with his intensity and ability on the ball, and showed no fear against the reigning world champions.

Alli was deservedly named as the man of the match by the BBC pundits in attendance, and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when he put Jamie Vardy’s cut-back just over the bar.

Not only has the midfielder surely cemented his place in the squad for the European Championships this summer, he could even have forced his way into the starting XI for the opener against Russia.
