Tottenham have made a £19m approach for Atalanta midfielder Franck Kessie, according to reports from Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The defensive midfielder, who turns 20 today, has also been a target for Serie A champions Juventus.
Furthermore, the Turin based side are not willing to spend over €20m on a new midfielder, and Spurs’ £19m (around €23m) means the battle has already exceeded that limit.
The Ivory Coast international has been a mainstay for Atalanta this season and has scored six goals in 16 appearances from a defensive midfield berth.
Tottenham fans, however, may feel that their money could be spent better elsewhere in the side. Despite Kessie being seemingly a hot prospect, Mauricio Pochettino already has Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele and summer signing Victor Wanyama to hold everything together in midfield.
