Tottenham are reportedly plotting a £23.6m move for Spain Under-21 international Saul Niguez, according to ITA Sport Press (via the Metro).

The Premier League title contenders, who face Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, are ready to splash the cash this summer in a bid to beat fellow English top-flight rivals Manchester United to the Atletico Madrid midfielder’s signature.

The 21-year-old, who has 14 international caps for Spain’s Under-21s, has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 33 appearances in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side so far this season.

Niguez, who graduated through the La Liga giants’ youth academy ranks, has also attracted interest from North London rivals Arsenal in the wake of his first-team emergence since making his debut back in March 2012 against Besiktas in the UEFA Europa League.

The report suggests that Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs are ready to offer £23.6m and a yearly salary of £4.7m in order to sign the Spanish star.
