There was not a dry eye in sight when Lionel Messi announced his departure from Barcelona.

Messi was in tears, many of the players were in tears, Messi’s family was in tears, and even the photographer was in tears.

Supporters of the Catalans gathered outside the Nou Camp and the Barcelona training ground, clasping and hugging the shirt of their hero, praying he would not be vacating the club.

Unfortunately, the news they hoped would never come, has came, and Messi will not be donning the shirt of Barcelona any more.

The Argentina captain did not confirm where his next club would be, but he did say that there have been many offers for him to consider.

And according to ESPN in South America, one side to express a stunning interest in the little magician, was none other than Tottenham Hotspur.

Nuno Espirito-Santo’s side allegedly declared an interest in Messi.

Spurs have been one of the most prominent clubs in the transfer window, due to the extremely uncertain future of Harry Kane.

They have successfully signed Bryan Gil and Cristian Romero from Sevilla and Atalanta respectively.

However, it is claimed by reports in South America that they were one of the first to express an interest in Messi when the news of his exit first broke.

It is not confirmed whether the supposed interest was a substantial offer, or a mere exploration of options.

Atletico Madrid were also reported to have been interested in signing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner, but it appears they are all set to miss out with Paris Saint-Germain looking the most likely to secure Messi’s signature.
