Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly scouting Netherlands Under-21 international star Frenkie de Jong, according to the Express.

The Premier League side, who suffered a 2-1 defeat at Watford in the English top-flight this afternoon, have been linked with a future move for the highly rated Ajax midfielder.

The 21-year-old, who has featured six times for the Dutch’s Under-21 side, has already made 10 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit so far this season.

De Jong, who signed for Ajax in 2015 following his move from Willem II, has scored two goals and provided nine assists in 47 games overall.

The report claims Spurs have already sent scouts to check out the central midfielder this term, after the club failed to sign any players during the latest summer transfer window.

De Jong, who is also being tracked by the likes of FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund, is valued at £40m.

He is contracted at the Amsterdam outfit until June 2022.
