Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Juventus midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur on a permanent deal, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano

The Italian journalist took to Twitter to reveal the news, reporting that the two clubs have agreed a deal worth around £15 million plus add-ons.

Spurs have since confirmed the deal, announcing that the player will join subject to international clearance and a work permit.

Bentancur looks to be a direct replacement for Tanguy Ndombele, who has also returned to former club Lyon on loan on deadline day.

The 24-year-old has impressed in Turin since joining the Serie A side from Boca Juniors in 2017.

In that time, he has made 181 appearances for the Italian giants, providing 18 assists in doing so.

Bentancur’s final game for Juventus was a 0-0 draw with AC Milan last week

Primarily a defensive or holding midfielder, the Uruguayan is also experienced at international level, having made 46 appearances since his senior debut in 2017.

The player follows former Juventus teammate Dejan Kulusevski, who joined the Lilywhites on an initial loan deal from the Serie A giants over the weekend.

Bentancur will act add much needed competition for places to Antonio Conte’s midfield, with Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp having been used a lot by the Italian, despite their relative inexperience.

The Uruguayan won three straight Italian top flight titles between 2018 and 2020, and also has two domestic cups to his name in Italy.
