Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to break their club-record transfer fee by signing Colombia international defender Davinson Sanchez, according to the Mirror.

The Premier League side, who visit Newcastle United in their opening 2017-18 top-flight fixture on Sunday afternoon, have been linked with a £35m deal for the highly-rated Ajax defender.

The 21-year-old, who has two international caps for his country, scored six goals and provided two assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit last season, who lost to Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final back in May.

Sanchez, who was crowned Ajax’s Player of the Year last term, is a versatile player who can operate as a centre-half or at right-back.

The report suggests Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is in Amsterdam trying to thrash out a deal for the young Colombian.

The North London club’s current record transfer fee paid is £30m, after signing both Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko for that figure back in 2013 and 2016 respectively.
