Tottenham were reportedly shocked by West Ham after they asked for Harry Kane in exchange for Cheikhou Kouyate at the end of last summer’s transfer window, according to the Daily Mirror.

The talks between the two clubs over a £15million offer took place, with Mauricio Pochettino a big fan of the Senegal international, but Spurs were stunned when the Irons demanded striker Kane in exchange.

The north London outfit rejected that deal and the England international has gone on to score 25 Premier League goals for the team who have fallen just short of winning the title this term, while he is said to be on the verge of signing a new £100,000-a-week deal at White Hart Lane.

Pochettino is still keen to strengthen his central midfield this summer with the club qualifying for the Champions League, but he will have to look elsewhere from Kouyate, who the Irons are refusing to sell ahead of their huge move to the Olympic Stadium this summer.
