Son Heung-min has admitted that former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy has inspired his recent goalscoring streak, via the Daily Express.

The Tottenham forward, who has scored four goals and provided two assists in five Premier League outings so far this season, is thankful to the ex-Netherlands international for believing in his ability during their time together at Hamburg back in 2010.

Son said, “I was 17 or 18, Ruud van Nistelrooy signed and he helped me a lot.

“He saw my first training session and he talked to me. He told me I was a good player.

“He gave me confidence and I want to thank him for that. We had a really good team and were successful for a time with him.

“Also Rafael van der Vaart came and he helped me. He told me more about English football and how tough it was.

“I was only young. I listened to him and tried to learn from what he was saying.”

The South Korea international netted 20 times in almost 80 games for the German outfit, before joining Bayer Leverkusen in 2013, then Spurs in August 2015 following his reported £22m switch.
