Tottenham Hotspur return to action when they face London rivals Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

The Lilywhites started the season superbly and topped the Premier League table after ten games, before a slump in form saw them drop down the table.

A recent resurgence has seen Ange Postecoglou’s side move back into fifth place, and they remain in the running to finish in the top four and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Regardless of where Spurs finish this term, it appears that one of their most senior players will depart the club permanently this summer.

According to The Athletic, defender Eric Dier’s loan spell with German side Bayern Munich will become permanent at the end of the current campaign.

The Englishman departed London to join the Bavarian club in January and has since made six appearances for Bayern, alongside former Tottenham teammate Harry Kane.

Dier is set to make his move to Bayern a permanent one

It is claimed that the defender only needed to make three appearances to trigger a clause in his Bayern deal that will add a further 122 months to his stay.

Dier’s Spurs contract was set to expire this summer anyway, so the former Sporting CP star will join Bayern as a free agent this summer.

The defender joined Spurs from Sporting back in 2014 and made more than 360 appearances for the London side across all competitions.

He was a regular for the Liliwhites for the majority of his time in the capital, but fell out of favour when Postecoglou arrived to take charge last summer.

He had made just four appearances for Tottenham this season, before being sent on an initial six-month loan to Bayern during the recent January transfer window.
