Tottenham Hotspur look to have finally ended their long running search for a manager, with several outlets reporting that former Wolves boss Nuno Esperito Santo is on the verge of agreeing to take over the Lilywhites.

Gennaro Gattuso, Antonio Conte and Julen Lopetegui had all been heavily linked with the vacant role, but it appears that Santo is the man to take over the reigns at the club.

In the wake of the news, it appears that the manager may try to lure one of his former players to Spurs with him.

Football Insider are reporting that Santo will chase Conor Coady, if he does become the club’s new manager.

The report suggests that Coady, who is currently at the Euros with England, will be top of Santo’s list of targets when the summer window reopens next month.

Coady is yet to feature for England at Euro 2020.

However, one former England international has suggested that Coady is not the right man for the club.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that the ex-Liverpool man is the wrong type of defender for Spurs to be signing.

Speaking to Football Insider, the striker answered “no, no, no,” when asked if he could fix Spurs’ leaky defence.

“Spurs have got defenders like Coady who are confident on the ball. Spurs need defenders that are rock solid as well as being confident on the ball but can’t be beaten in behind,” he added.

“For me, Coady is not the defender that Tottenham need.”
